This document gives Ubuntu-specific but quite general instructions to install a driver for wireless devices with the Broadcom bcm43xx chipset, in particular Airport extreme cards.

Yeah it is very odd. I've got a new MB Pro and am about ready to return it or throw it away. However, there is an open source driver available for some Broadcom chipsets, including the one used in Apple's AirPort Extreme g. There is a very useful post I kept by Linc Davis who is one of the gurus around that area. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.
